Tonight was game 5 between the Washington Nationals and the Chicago Cubs for the National League Division Championship. The winner would go on to play the Dodgers in the NL Championship Series. I was ready to watch it at 6 PM.

I was still watching it at 10:30, chewing my nails and covering my eyes.

Wade Davis, is a hobbled-together 2.1 inning relief effort, carried the Cubs to a 9-8 win, extending their season another 3 games at least.

To tell you the truth, I didn’t think the Cubs would get out of this series. I thought they were good, but that Washington’s starters and bats would prevail.

A week later, after 4 pitching duels, we received one of the ugliest playoff games, and one of the oddest single innings I’ve ever seen- and the Cubs get a chance to continue their title defense starting on Saturday night.

When tonight’s tense game ended, I just sat for a minute, trying to process what I had seen.

    A win.

    Really?

    A win?

That team gets to play the Dodgers for the NL Chamionship.

    It’s just baseball. I know.

And the Cubs are just a team. A group of guys playing a game.

    I know.

    I sure do love it.

I hope the Cubs can find someone rested enough to start as pitcher Saturday night.

I guess they’ll have to scrap something together then too.

I love surprises. Winning this series was one, for sure. And I hope for one or even few more this season with this team.

    About

A web programmer by day, I somehow still spend a lot of time thinking about relationships, God, and the significance of grace and love in daily events. I am old school in the sense that I believe in the reality of sin, and in the need of each human heart for deliverance to the Divine. I am one of those who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that you can find most answers to life's pressing issues in Him and His Word, the Bible. I ain't perfect, and a lot of the time I ain't good, but by God's grace and kindness, I am forgiven and free.
